On our last morning in Arenal, we needed another exciting adventure in the rain forest before heading back to the beach. Before coming to Costa Rica, we checked several websites to the find the best activities to do in this area. One review said this activity was one experience you will never forget! A must-do before leaving Costa Rica!
Excursion #7 - Waterfall Rappelling
This adventure included 4 rappels (3 waterfalls) through the canyon. Each participant was given waterproof jackets, helmets, and rappelling harnesses. I had also packed my waterproof camera to once again try to capture some action photos while rappelling down the falls (fingers crossed!).
I went down the first canyon wall (130ft) practicing correct form - legs open with one hand above my harness and the other controlling my speed below it. Near the mid-point of the canyon wall, the guides instruct you to bounce over and rappel down through the nearby waterfall. Fun! Fun!
On the next waterfall plunge....I attempted to lean over the edge - while waiting my turn - and snap a quick photo of Jenesa descending into the canyon waterfalls. Quite the pro! :)
The scariest part of this entire activity is turning around backwards and taking the initial leap off the platform high above the canyon. You are supposed to sit down in your harness and just let go of the rope to begin your descent. Easier said than done!
But, once you get to the bottom.....soaked and safe!.....you are anxious to get to the next canyon and take the leap again!
